Jack in the Green WhitstableThe Whitstable Jack in the Green Festival is back!

There will be a Ceilidh at St Mary’s Hall High Street Whitstable on Sunday May 1st

  • Doors open at 1900
  • Cost is £12.00
  • All proceeds go to the funding of the Festival
  • Performers will be announced shortly
  • Refreshments available from the Umbrella Centre

on Monday May 2nd, the Festival begins with dancing outside the Library at 10am

  • Procession down the High Street to the Horsebridge where there will be more dancing
  • At 1300, the Jack in the Green comes out of the Duke of Cumberland and dances down through the line of Morris Dancers and leads the procession along through the Harbour
  • At the Harbour there will be a live Samba Band, and they will play until the procession arrives
  • After more dancing, the procession moves on to the Castle
  • We will assemble on the lawn of the Castle and sing the May Day Song. This is a special May Day Song that is unique to Whitstable: you can find the lyrics on the back of the Programme, which is available for a donation at the Castle entrance.
  • Then there is entertainment for all on the lawn for the rest of the day

In the Castle grounds there are side shows, stalls, tombolas, Mr Punch will be there, circus troupe and more for all the family to enjoy!

There is no charge but we ask for a donation for the programme.

It has become a tradition for local primary school children (400 in 2019!) to enter a competition to design a May Day poster and these are all laminated and displayed around the grounds of Whitstable Castle. The winning poster is printed on the front cover of over 1,000 programmes listing the times of the entertainment and events, available to visitors for a small donation, contributing to the Lions’ fundraising for people in need.
